Caterpillar Room

Our Caterpillar Room is a warm, caring space where children aged 2–3 can learn, play, and grow with confidence.

We follow each child’s interests to create fun and meaningful experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, and independence.

Every day is filled with opportunities for exploration through messy play, small world activities, music, movement, and outdoor adventures.

We love keeping active and helping children build confidence while having fun.

Our safe and secure outdoor garden is an important part of daily learning, giving children the freedom to explore both indoors and outdoors at their own pace.

The children further develop their learning through hands on experiences, including learning about life cycles by caring for the nursery fish, caterpillars, and observing chick and duckling eggs hatch.

We also focus on supporting early communication skills through play and learning activities.

We have Rhythm Time and sensory story sessions that encourage new vocabulary, listening and attention and communication skills.

We begin to encourage children’s independence through personal self-help skills such as toilet training, washing their hands and face, cutting their own snack fruit and self-serving their own meals.

Parent Partnership is crucial to our practice. We know that leaving your most precious children with someone outside of your family can be a worrying time so we take every opportunity to send photos and updates to parents through our eyparent app.

Observations made of your children shows you the bonds they have made with staff and friends and what fun we have been up to each day.

We provide simple home learning activities found outside of our door along with our story and song of the week. This helps children to carry on the fun at home.

Jack and Jill are our room mascots and home learning Monkeys. Each week they get to spend time at a child’s house and our children have the important job of looking after them.

Key people will add activities into Jack and Jill’s bag which supports their next steps and a diary entry to complete to show all of the fun you have had.

Above all, we aim to create a happy, nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued, and loved.
